My belief is that all massage therapy is therapeutic. There are literally hundreds of different techniques, certifications and modalities that all fall under the umbrella of massage therapy. My goal as a therapist is to use whatever techniques and knowledge I have to fit your goals for your session. In some cases, this means I may tell you that you'd be better served by another therapist with different techniques than mine. The priority is to help you as best as possible.
Having said that, I am confident in addressing a variety of issues. These could be general health concerns like stress, tension, muscle stiffness and discomfort. They can also be concerns about specific areas of pain and/or tightness, lymphatic sluggishness (with possible swelling or puffiness), or a myriad of other issues. I have had over 50 hours of Medical Massage training, am certified in Manual Lymphatic Drainage, am a Certified Lymphedema Practitioner, and have taken 100's of hours of continuing education training.
Relaxation Massage is generally thought to be Swedish Massage and is designed to relax, reduce stress and release tension. In my opinion, this is a very therapeutic session to counter the negative effects of daily stress and tension. It also reminds us of the true value of our body, and that appreciation helps us to take better care of ourselves.
A Therapeutic Massage is generally used to address more specific problems. I may use a combination of many techniques in this type of session including: Swedish Massage, Trigger Point Work, Deep Tissue Massage, Vibration, Heat, Myofascial Release, Silicone Cupping, or whatever I think will best address the issues. Having good communication between us will help to achieve your goals for the session. I encourage you to speak up anytime before, during or after your session.
